Sofisport and Italgreen, synthetic turf lands in Coverciano

The synergy between two great businesses in the sector resulted in a product destined to change the world of synthetic turf sports fields. The vocation for technological research and experimentation displayed by Roberto Nusca, the patron of Sofisport, and the know-how of Maurizio Gilardi, head of Italgreen, a leading manufacturer of synthetic turf mantles, have led to the creation of Bio-Surface.

This is one of the most innovative solutions in the field of synthetic turf, used in the recent restyling project for the new synthetic turf for the football field of Centro Sportivo di Coverciano, by the Italian Football Federation. The new Bio-Surface mantle was tufted by Italgreen for Sofisport, a company from Pisa that has studied this technology and carried out the project.

The yarn, masterfully worked with the best technologies available in the market, was transformed at the headquarters of Italgreen, in Villa D'Adda to become a surface layer that can guarantee the best results for players at any given time and under any weather condition. The high technological value of the solutions proposed by Italgreen can be found in a series of projects carried out in the past few years: top-level Italian teams, such as FC Juventus, AC Chievo Verona and US Avellino, in addition to authoritative international stadiums, such as the recently renewed Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil, considered one of the world's most modern sports stadiums have all employed the professionalism of Italgreen, which has confirmed its position as market leader for professional football clubs.

In particular, Bio-Surface, the system installed in Coverciano, with the highest Italian certification (LND Professional), consists of special single-yarn fibres with ultra-high thickness, which guarantees extreme resistance to weakening due to UV rays and ice; the result is a very durable product. Its special screw shape ensures an immediate return of the fibres to a vertical position after being stepped on, ensuring perfect ball bounce and sliding and natural foot torsion and grip. The very high density of yarns gives the field a remarkable softness, reducing abrasion in falls. Together with the double-hue green, it makes the field look remarkably similar to natural grass. These technical peculiarities of the synthetic mantle show how Bio-Surface, with natural Bio-Ground infill, is a system that can guarantee excellent performance in any play conditions.

The new Coverciano field was inaugurated on 7 November, with a friendly match between a team formed by employees of the Federation and another with journalists sent after the Italian national team. The event was also attended by coach Piero Ventura, to observe the efficiency of the new synthetic turf football field.
